Summary

Instagram Reels Download is a browser extension for saving publicly available Instagram media. It contains no analytics, advertising or tracking code. Your downloads and preferences are stored on your own device. The only data sent to a server is what is required to operate your account and your download allowance.

What is stored on your device

The extension uses the browser's local extension storage for the following. This data stays in your browser profile and is not transmitted to us:

Settings — quality preference, file naming options and theme.
Recent downloads — a local list of what you saved, so you can find it again. You can turn history off in Settings.

What is sent to the backend

The extension has an account system used for sign-in and for the free download allowance. The following is handled server-side:

Account details — your email address and authentication state, used to sign you in, verify your email and let you reset your password.
Download allowance — counters recording how much of your free allowance you have used. Your quota can only be changed by the server, never by the extension.

Authentication and quota records are stored with our backend provider. Account credentials are handled by that provider's authentication service; the extension never stores your password.

Media you download

When you submit a link, the extension asks Instagram's public endpoints for the media in that post and then downloads the file through your browser's own download manager. The files are saved directly to your computer. We do not receive, proxy, store or inspect the media you download.

Browser permissions and why they are needed

Downloads — to save the file you asked for to your computer.
Storage — to keep your settings and recent downloads list on your device.
Clipboard read — used only when you press the Paste button, so the extension can read the link you copied.
Access to instagram.com — required to read the public post you provide and to show the in-page download button.

What the extension does not do

It does not include analytics, advertising or third-party tracking code.
It does not sell or share your personal information.
It does not access private accounts or content you are not permitted to see.
It does not bypass Instagram's access restrictions or login requirements.

Your choices

Turn off history in Settings to stop the local download list being kept.
Uninstalling the extension removes its local storage, including settings and history.
To request deletion of your account and its associated allowance record, contact us using the address below.

Children

The extension is not directed at children and is not intended for use by anyone under the age required to hold an account in their jurisdiction.

Changes

If this policy changes, the updated version will be published on this page along with the version of the extension it applies to.
